How to Find me

1 min read
My DA page is a bit slow with updates since I use it for finished work, I use facebook or my blogs for miscellaneous process updates and pictures, so with that in mind the following links will let you find my work through my other sites.

Fast or slow?

1 min read
Over the last few weeks I have been playing with a "fast" burnout method instead of the more normal slow method, until recently this method has produced fantastic results. Once I started casting large pieces though i was getting investment "inclusions", that is small bits of investment mixed with the liquid metal forming holes in my castings. But only on the larger pieces, buckle size. Once I started to use the slow system again the inclusions stopped showing up. Go figure :) Not much of a journal entry, I'm still working on new stuff hope to see it soon.

Recently I tested a method for burnout thats much faster then the "recommended" way. This quick burnout worked very well with no surface defects and zero flashing (cracks in the investment". Its very simple, I turn the oven on at the maximum temperature (700c) and let it soak for an hour to get everything heated up, then I put the flasks in one hour after investing them so they are still wet. The flasks being wet is very important because while the flask heats up the water keeps it from heating unevenly thus forming cracks (flashing). So instead of a burnout cycle that takes ten hours it only takes four now. This means I can invest and cast in the same day very cool!
